Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral to see a Podiatrist?
Mostly no, you do not need a referral to see a podiatrist. Podiatry is covered by Private Health Insurance (if included on your policy). We have a hicaps terminal in the clinic to process claims straight away.
When do I need a referral?
If you are a DVA patient with a Gold Card you will need a referral from your GP. For patients with a chronic condition you may be eligible for up to 5 podiatry visits through Medicare under the Enhanced Primary Care Programme system. Please consult your GP to see if you are eligible.
How can a Podiatrist help me?
Podiatrists are experts in foot, ankle and lower limb health.
They can help to prevent, diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions.
We provide general treatment/nail care, corns and callus removal. Ingrown nail care including nail surgery, bio mechanical examinations, children's foot problems, gait evaluations, diabetic examinations, doppler studies of the foot arteries, paraffin wax baths, wound management, foot mobilisation.
Your feet are one of the most important parts of the body, yet they receive hardly any of the attention they deserve. When you suffer a problem with your feet, sometimes you are unable to take a single step without being in pain. This drastically reduces your quality of life.
Am I covered by my private health insurance?
If you have extras cover for podiatry you may be eligible for a rebate from your private health insurer. You can phone your health fund to see if you are covered. We have a hicaps terminal in the clinic so you can claim immediately and only need to pay the remaining gap payment.
Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes. We don't like to keep you waiting and try our very best to see our patients on time. Just phone to make an appointment and we will see you at a time that suits you.
We often have same day appointments available.
What do I bring to my appointment?
When you come to your appointment please bring any x-ray, MRI reports you have. Also bring a few pair of shoes that you were a lot of the time so we can check the wear patterns on the soles. Please wear shorts so we can examine your knees and look at your legs while you walk.
